Otahuhu Historical Society

The Otahuhu Historical Society was formed in 1976 to collect and preserve the history of Otahuhu and adjoining areas, including Southdown, Westfield and Middlemore.

Meetings

Meetings are held in the Town Hall complex, High Street, Otahuhu, on the fourth Monday of each month (1.30 pm June to August; 7.30 pm February to May and September to November). Bus trips, historic walks and annual get-togethers are also organised.

Museum and archives

The society’s museum and archives room in High Street (upstairs behind the Otahuhu Library) is open to the public Wednesdays, February to November, 10am to 12pm. A photocopier is available. For assistance, contact the archivist, Elaine Read (phone: 09 534 1120, email: otahuhuhistorical@gmail.com).

A selection of the society’s photographs can be seen on the Auckland Libraries Footprints database and Digital New Zealand. The society also reports selected holdings on the Community Archive and NZ Museums websites.

Publications

The society issues a newsletter, the Otahuhu Despatch, monthly from February to November. Its book A Passing Parade: A Reflection of 150 Years in Otahuhu (1998) has sold out, but a heritage trail, Otahuhu: A Nostalgic Ramble, and a number of topical guides on Otahuhu history are available on request.
